Come On In! (Part 2!)

First things first, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who has viewed my blog and for all of the kind things that you all have said to me about it! I am so excited to get to share my life with you through this outlet! Will and i are so incredibly lucky to be surrounded by love and support! Now that I got all the gushy stuff out of the way, let's get down to business. As I promised on Tuesday, I'm going to show you the upstairs of our house! Let's get started, shall we?!

This is going to be our master bedroom. The two bigger bedrooms are actually the exact same size, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the windows in this room. Those windows might come back to bite me when I want to sleep in with all that light coming in, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. We aren't currently staying in the room yet. We want to rip out the carpet and lay hardwoods. We obviously want to take down the wallpaper border too. Formal bunnies with balloons aren't really my thing. We're going to paint the walls and spruce up the window trim. And then we'll move our stuff in and officially start using this as the master!

There's the formal bunnies I was telling you about.

This is the bedroom that we are currently staying in. It is the same size as the master bedroom, which will be FANTASTIC when I convert this into my office. Do I really need an office? Probably not. And is it really going to be used as an office? Probably not. I plan on making this a humongous closet/dressing room/craft space. I would like to put a desk in here for paying bills, and wrapping gifts, and filing away all of our important documents. But I'm also on building clothing racks into the walls and expanding the closet. I'd like to squeeze a guest bed in there as well, so we can have extra space if we are having people stay with us! My vision for this room is light gray or white walls, a coral ceiling, and hardwood floors. This will not be our first priority, but a girl can dream, right?

This is the third bedroom. This will probably someday be a nursery, but until that day comes it will be used as a guest room. This is the only room in the house that doesn't have HVAC set up, so it just has a passive vent that you can see straight down into the living room from. We'd like to check into getting it hooked up, but I have a feeling there's a reason that it's not already!

This is the upstairs bathroom! Let me tell you, after showering in well water with no water pressure for almost three years, the first time I took a shower in this shower, I was almost brought to tears. Tears of joy, and clean skin, and not having to scrub rust water out of the tub after every use. The walls in this bathroom are PEACH. More peach than you can convey in pictures. I would like to paint the walls a less alarming color soon, and I'd also like to refresh the grout. This bathroom is really big, and I can't wait to get to use it at it's full potential. Like a spa! (But in my house!)

So, there you have it. That's our house! I did leave out the basement (which is a creepy death basement) and the attic (which is like the attic from Paranormal Activity 1) but maybe someday, if there's enough of a demand, I will build up my courage and take some photos for you guys to see it. We will be making many, many updates over time, so I will be keeping you guys updated with all of that fun stuff! I have been working on refinishing an old laminate dresser that was given to me by a friend, so I will be posting about that next week! Until next time!

Come On In!

So, we have been living in our house for over a month now. We have made some *minor* changes to a few rooms in the house, like painting the walls and adding window treatments, but for the most part it looks like it did on the listing, plus about 100 boxes that still need unpacked. (We're working on it, I swear.) So, I figured I would take you all on a virtual tour of our house! These photos are all from the listing, so picture if you will two maniac dogs, piles & piles of boxes, and lots of mismatched furniture covered in a fine film of dog hair and that should give you a pretty accurate idea of what the house looks like now that we're moved in. Anyhow, on with the tour! Because this is such an image heavy post, I'm going to break it down by floor. Today I'll give you a quick run-through of our first floor, which houses the living room, dining room, kitchen, Will's office, a full bathroom, and the laundry room.

This is the view of the front of the house from the other side of the street. It's a really old house, and we love the charm! One of the first things on the "To Do" list is to paint the front door. I have a really pretty teal color picked out! Hopefully we can get to it before the weather turns!

This is our living room! The door right in front of the stairs is the door that leads out to the front porch. Luckily for us, we have off-street parking in the back of the house, so we hardly ever use the front door. (Usually only for the delivery of Chinese food and/or pizza.) The beam that you see in the picture above is a detail that is carried out throughout the entire downstairs. I absolutely love the charm that it adds to the spaces, but I would eventually like to darken the beams up a little bit.

This is the dining room. If you can picture trumpets sounding when you looked at this picture, do that. That's pretty much what happened the first time I laid eyes on this room. The bay window is EVERYTHING. Harlow has realized the full potential of the window seat, and stands up there and polices the area pretty frequently. (She is not a fan of fun. In any form. Ever.) The living room and dining room are completely open to each other, which I love! The wall to the right of the windows is considered the living room. At some point I think I would like to add wood planks to the back wall to add a nice little focal point and to differentiate

This is the kitchen! The glorious, glorious kitchen. It is really big, which is a huge upgrade for us! It has a pantry (which you can barely see in the lower left hand of the picture.) I don't feel like the cabinets are laid out in the most efficient way, but we want to live in it for about a year before we do any big renovations. I would like to paint the cabinets and replace the hardware sooner than later, and hopefully that will give the kitchen a nice little refresher. I would also like to add an island in here eventually to add some more work space. I would also like to swap out the white appliances for stainless steel. Baby steps, Caitlin. Baby steps.

This is Will's office. He is always playing guitar and fooling around with his recording software, so this will give him a nice little space to do that and not be bothered by me or the dogs. He plans on paying the walls a soft gray, and I would like to stain the paneling a darker color. Someday! For now this room is just the holding area for tons of boxes. We will hopefully have it up and running as a functional office in the next two weeks.

This is the laundry room. You remember the trumpet thing you did when you laid eyes on the picture of the dining room? Do that again. Please. In our old apartment, our washer and dryer were stashed away in a secret little room off of the kitchen. It was a really, really tight space and made doing laundry painful. Emotionally and physically painful. Okay, I digress. That's a little dramatic. But when I saw the potential of this laundry room, I actually did a little victory dance. I would like to paint the walls and maybe paint the floor as well. (I've been pinning things like this for inspiration the past few months. What did people do before the internet? Seriously.)

This is the full bathroom on the first floor. While it is SUPER convenient to have another full bathroom so close to where we spend most of our time, this bathroom was definitely an after thought. The previous owners added this on their own, and it's not quite... right. The walls are weird and the paint is weird, and it's all just really weird. Hopefully we will be able to fix it within the next year or so, so that it can be as pretty as it is convenient.

So, there you have it! This is the first floor of our house. As I'm sure you picked up on, we have big plans for this baby. I already have a dresser that I'm working on getting painting and refinished, so that blog post will be coming soon! I will keep you all updated as the projects are completed. Or, as I'm guessing will happen, I will keep you updated throughout each project's process, because I'm sure we're going to be way more enthusiastic about some projects than others. Thanks for stopping by, and keep your eyes peeled for the tour of the second floor, which will include all three bedrooms and another full bathroom. I know, you're all holding your breath in anticipation! Until next time!
